About the Music

BEETHOVEN  Violin Concerto

MUSSORGSKY/RAVEL  Pictures at an Exhibition

Beethoven’s Violin Concerto is one of the instrument’s crown jewels, neglected for decades after its composition but happily restored today to its rightful place in the repertoire. Four years after her sensational Cleveland debut, violinist Sayaka Shoji performs this masterwork with The Cleveland Orchestra and conductor Kahchun Wong. Complementing this is Ravel’s exquisite orchestration of Mussorgsky’s "Pictures at an Exhibition," which concludes with one of the grandest themes in music: a stately vision of the Great Gate of Kyiv.
