Lembi Veskimets became a member of the viola section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 1997. Previously, she served for two seasons as principal viola of the Ohio Chamber Orchestra. An enthusiastic chamber musician, she has performed in venues from Carnegie Hall to the cité de musique in Paris and the Expo in Osaka, Japan, as well as at the music festivals of Aspen, Sarasota, and Taos. Her chamber music performances in Cleveland include 12 annual Earthday Coalition benefits. Ms. Veskimets received her bachelor of music and master of music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she was a student of Robert Vernon. Currently, she performs in the public schools as an artist-teacher in the Orchestra’s Learning Through Music program and is a board member of the American Viola Society. She also serves as a faculty member for the Young Artist Program at CIM, at the Music Settlement in Cleveland, and at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont. She taught at the CIM-affiliated Encore School for Strings in Hudson for many summers.
