The Orchestra’s 101st Season opens on September 20 with Music Director Franz Welser-Möst

“Under 18s Free,” Student Advantage, and Frequent Fan Card Programs Continue

CLEVELAND – Individual concert tickets for The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2018-19 Season, which marks the beginning of a Second Century of musical excellence, go on sale on Monday, August 13, 2018, online at clevelandorchestra.com, by phone at 216-231-1111, and in person at the Severance Hall Ticket Office. The coming season is the 17th year of the Orchestra’s acclaimed partnership with Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Under his leadership, The Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world, setting standards of extraordinary artistic excellence, creative programming and community engagement. The New York Times has declared it “... the best in America” for its virtuosity, elegance of sound, variety of color and chamber-like musical cohesion.

Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra open the Orchestra’s 101st season on September 20 and 22 with the World Premiere of “Pantheon” by Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Principal Oboe Jeffrey Rathbun, the U.S. Premiere of Hans Abrahamsen’s “Left, alone,” and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Additional highlights of the 2018-19 season include a made-for-Cleveland production of Richard Strauss’sAriadne Auf Naxos, which is being performed for the first time in the Orchestra’s history January 13, 17 and 19, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”) on October 4, 5, and 6. Franz Welser-Möst is also “particularly excited by the works by Schubert and Prokofiev this coming season. They represent some of these great composer’s best music, which is too often neglected and is ready for re-discovery.” These works include Prokofiev’s Symphony Nos. 1 and 3 on September 27 and 30, Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 (“Tragic”) on March 21 and March 23, and his Mass No. 6 on May 16, 17, and 18.


“At the Movies,” Family Concert Series supported by the Weiss Family Foundation, PNC Music Explorers, and More

The 2018-19 season also features the popular “At the Movies”series (sponsored by PNC Bank), the KeyBankFridays@7series, the Family Concert Series supported by the Weiss Family Foundation, and PNC Music Explorersseries. The traditional Cleveland Orchestra Christmas Concerts (sponsored by Dollar Bank) will be conducted by Richard Kaufman and will begin on December 14 and run through December 23, 2018. 


Annual Cleveland Orchestra Gala

On Saturday, September 29, Franz Welser-Möst and pianist Lang Lang perform a special 100th Anniversary Gala concert. The program features Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, works by Richard and Johann Strauss, and Ravel’s La Valse [The Waltz]. Lang Lang first performed with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Festival in 2000 and at Severance Hall in 2002. The Cleveland Orchestra’s annual gala supports the Orchestra’s education and community programs which share the value and joy of music with people throughout Northeast Ohio. America’s preeminent performing arts television series Great Performances in association with ideastream will record the September 29 concert for an exclusive U.S. television broadcast on PBS slated for 2019. Choral Highlights

In addition to performances in December for the annual Christmas concerts, the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus performs as part of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”) on October 4, 5, and 6 and Schubert’s Mass No. 6 on May 16, 17, and 18.

Individual and Subscription Ticket Information

Beginning August 13, tickets to individual performances are available online at clevelandorchestra.com, or by calling Cleveland Orchestra Ticket Services at 216-231-1111 or 800-686-1141. The Severance Hall Ticket Office is located on street level in the Smith Lobby. The entrance and 15-minute Ticket Service parking are along the west side of the building, on East Boulevard. Severance Hall Ticket Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, beginning September 9, Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed Sundays and holidays except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office opens three hours prior to each performance). Severance Hall Second Century Fund: a $2.00 charge on individual tickets will support the conservation and enhancement of Severance Hall.

Subscribers receive seating priority over individual-ticket buyers, ticket exchange privileges, and other benefits. “Under 18s Free,” Student Advantage, and Frequent Fan Card

The Cleveland Orchestra again offers many ticket options, including the “Under 18s Free” ticket with an adult purchase; the Student Advantage Program for high school, college, and graduate students; and, also for students, the Frequent Fan Card. These programs are supported by The Cleveland Orchestra’s Center for Future Audiences. The Center was created in 2010 with a $20 million lead endowment gift from the Maltz Family Foundation. Center-funded programs focus on addressing economic and geographic barriers to attending Cleveland Orch­estra concerts at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center. “Under 18s Free”
The “Under 18s Free” program offers free tickets (one per regular-priced adult paid admission) to young people ages 7-17 for select concerts. The free tickets for Severance Hall concerts eligible for this program must be obtained through the Severance Hall Ticket Office. Holiday concerts, “At the Movies” series concerts, and the Gala Concert are excluded from the “Under 18s Free” offer. Student Advantage Program
The Cleveland Orchestra’s Student Advantage Program makes $15 tickets available to full-time high school, college, and graduate/post-graduate students during the Severance Hall season and allows members to bring a guest for an additional $15. Membership is free; for more information, visit clevelandorchestra.com/Tickets/students/ and follow on Facebook. Student Advantage Program members also receive discounted tickets, exclusive invitations to masterclasses, post-concert receptions with musicians, and behind-the-scenes open rehearsals.

The Cleveland Orchestra Frequent Fan Card is priced at $50 and available at the Severance Hall Ticket Office. The Frequent Fan Card admits one student to unlimited performances, based on availability, of Cleveland Orchestra subscription concerts in the 2018-19 season and allows cardholders to bring a guest for an additional $15. Other benefits include exclusive invitations to masterclasses, post-concert receptions with musicians, and behind-the-scenes open rehearsals. The Cleveland Orchestra Frequent Fan Card, normally priced at $50, will be offered to students at a discount of $35 in early fall. The Student Advantage program is funded by the Center for Future Audiences through the Alexander and Sarah Cutler Fund for Student Audiences.

Friday Morning Bus Service

Bus service is available to Friday Morning Concert patrons, departing from Akron, Beachwood, Brecksville, and Westlake for $15 roundtrip. Bus tickets must be purchased in advance. A limited number of bus passes are available for the complete Friday Morning Matiness series. Local shuttle service is available from Cedar Hill Baptist Church for $5 per person. Now offered for the ninth consecutive season, bus transportation is supported in part by Friends of The Cleveland Orchestra (formerly Women’s Committee of The Cleveland Orchestra).
