CLEVELAND – Severance Hall, home of The Cleveland Orchestra, is seeking volunteer ushers and tour guides for the upcoming season, which runs September 2019 to June 2020. Open interview sessions for new volunteers will be held at Severance Hall from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, Monday, August 5 and Thursday, August 22. Those interested in volunteering are invited to come to Severance Hall’s Smith Lobby, located on the ground floor by the Ticket Office, at any time during these hours to complete an application, learn about the program, and speak with the House Management team.

For more information, or to request an application packet, please call the Severance Hall Associate House Manager, Patricia Fernberg, at 216-456-8421 or e-mail [email protected].

Interested applicants should be energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to provide patrons with the highest level of customer service. The season includes performances by The Cleveland Orchestra — evening, matinee, education, family, and holiday events — the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorus, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, and the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra, as well as other musical and non-musical events. Volunteers have the opportunity to hear great music in a beautiful venue, enjoy the company of other music lovers, and contribute their talents and time to a premier performing arts organization.

Several opportunities are available:

Tour guides conduct public and private tours and provide historical information and architectural details about Severance Hall, as well as historical information about The Cleveland Orchestra.

Ushers greet patrons, distribute programs, and guide patrons to their seats; direct them to Severance Hall amenities; address questions; and provide unparalleled customer service to ensure an engaging, enjoyable, and safe experience for each guest.

Junior Volunteer Corps (JVC) members are students age 14 years and older who assist adult volunteers in ushering at concerts and special events (mostly daytime performances on weekends). An orientation, training program, and adult usher mentors prepare students to serve as ushers. JVC volunteers can earn credit toward completing community service requirements at schools and other organizations.

Severance Hall volunteers are asked to commit for the entire season, from September through June, and are required to attend a training and orientation session.
