CLEVELAND – Individual concert tickets for The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2019-20 season will go on sale for subscribers and donors on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, and for the general public on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, online at clevelandorchestra.com, by phone at 216-231-1111, and in person at the Severance Hall Ticket Office. The coming season is the 18th year of the Orchestra’s acclaimed partnership with Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Under his leadership, The Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world, setting standards of extraordinary artistic excellence, creative programming, and community engagement. The New York Times has declared it “the best in America” for its virtuosity, elegance of sound, variety of color, and chamber-like musical cohesion.
The Cleveland Orchestra will open its 102nd season on September 19 and 20, 2019, in performances led by Franz Welser-Möst of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet (Act I) and Schubert’s Symphony No. 3. Additional highlights of the 2019-20 season include a groundbreaking citywide festival featuring collaborations with notable Cleveland arts organizations centered around Alban Berg’s opera Lulu on May 16, 19, and 22, 2020. Mr. Welser-Möst is also continuing his focus on rediscovering the symphonic works of Prokofiev and Schubert. In addition to featuring the two composers during the Orchestra’s opening week of concerts, Mr. Welser-Möst will pair them again for programs in the spring. The presentations include Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 2 and Schubert’s Symphony in C major (“The Great”) on March 12 and 14, 2020, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3 and Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 on March 13, 2020.
During the coming season, the Orchestra will be led by an impressive list of guest conductors, including Michael Tilson Thomas, Herbert Blomstedt, Alan Gilbert, Jahja Ling, and Susanna Mälkki. Severance Hall will also host Cleveland Orchestra debuts for conductors Philippe Herreweghe, Dima Slobodeniouk, Thomas Søndergård, and Lorenzo Viotti.
Pianist Mitsuko Uchida in Recital
On November 3, 2019, Cleveland Orchestra guest artist and frequent collaborator Mitsuko Uchida will perform a solo recital of three Schubert Piano Sonatas: A minor, D. 537; C major, D. 840; and B-flat major, D. 960. A longtime artistic partner, Ms. Uchida has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra more than a hundred times since her 1990 debut, with repertoire that ranges from Mozart and Beethoven to Schoenberg and Messiaen.
August 1 Update: Movies with The Cleveland Orchestra
During the 2019-20 season, The Cleveland Orchestra will perform live concerts of movie soundtracks at Severance Hall along with screenings of the classic films It’s a Wonderful Life on December 12, 2019, and Amadeus on February 7 and 8, 2020.
Annual Cleveland Orchestra Gala
On Saturday, September 21, 2019, Franz Welser-Möst will lead the Orchestra’s Annual Gala concert at Severance Hall. This program features selections from Richard Strauss’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme and a concert suite from his opera Der Rosenkavalier, arranged by Robert Mandell. The Gala Evening supports the Orchestra’s education and community programs, which were created to share the value and joy of music with people throughout Northeast Ohio. Choral Highlights
In addition to performances in December for the annual Christmas concerts, the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus — as well as members of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus and Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus — sing as part of Adams’s On the Transmigration of Souls on November 14, 16, and 17, 2019. The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus also performs as part of Mendelssohn’s Second Symphony (“Lobgesang”) on March 5, 7, and 8, 2020. Guest vocalists for the coming season include mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and bass Dashon Burton, who will perform a new work of Rilke-inspired songs composed and conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas on February 20, 21, 22, and 23, 2020.

Individual and Subscription Ticket Information
Beginning on August 6, tickets to individual performances are available for subscribers and donors, and on August 13 for the general public, online at clevelandorchestra.com, or by calling Cleveland Orchestra Ticket Services at 216-231-1111 or 800-686-1141. The Severance Hall Ticket Office is located on street level in the Smith Lobby. The entrance and 15-minute Ticket Service parking are along the west side of the building, on East Boulevard. Severance Hall Ticket Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, beginning September 7, Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed Sundays and holidays except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office opens three hours prior to each performance).
Subscribers receive seating priority over individual-ticket buyers, ticket exchange privileges, and other benefits. Under 18s Free, Student Advantage, and Frequent Fan Card
The Cleveland Orchestra again offers many ticket options for young people, including the Under 18s Free ticket with an adult purchase; the Student Advantage Program for high school, college, and graduate students; and, also for students, the Frequent Fan Card. These programs are supported by The Cleveland Orchestra’s Center for Future Audiences. The Center was created in 2010 with a $20 million lead endowment gift from the Maltz Family Foundation. Center-funded programs focus on addressing economic and geographic barriers to attending Cleveland Orchestra concerts at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center. Under 18s Free
The Under 18s Free program offers free tickets (one per regular-priced adult paid admission) to young people ages 7-17 for select concerts. Free tickets for Severance Hall concerts eligible for this program must be obtained through the Severance Hall Ticket Office. Holiday concerts and movies are excluded from the Under 18s Free offer. Student Advantage Program
The Cleveland Orchestra’s Student Advantage Program makes $15 tickets available to full-time high school, college, and graduate/post-graduate students during the Severance Hall season and allows members to bring a guest for an additional $15. The Cleveland Orchestra Frequent Fan Card
Priced at $50 and available at the Severance Hall Ticket Office, the Frequent Fan Card admits one student to unlimited performances, based on availability, of Cleveland Orchestra subscription concerts during the 2019-20 season and allows cardholders to bring a guest for an additional $15. Other benefits include exclusive invitations to masterclasses, post-concert receptions with musicians, and behind-the-scenes open rehearsals. The Cleveland Orchestra Frequent Fan Card, normally priced at $50, will be offered to students at a discount of $35 in early fall. Friday Morning Bus Service
Bus service is available to Friday Morning Concert patrons, departing from Akron, Beachwood, Brecksville, and Westlake for $15 roundtrip. Bus tickets must be purchased in advance. A limited number of bus passes are available for the complete Friday Morning Matiness series. Local shuttle service is available from Cedar Hill Baptist Church for $5 per person. Now offered for the tenth consecutive season, bus transportation is supported in part by Friends of The Cleveland Orchestra (formerly Women’s Committee of The Cleveland Orchestra).
